Avoid these common mistakes to prevent complications during claims and reporting.

Do not move your vehicle too early

Do not move your vehicle before taking photographs of the accident scene.

Do not move injured persons or vehicles

If someone is injured or there has been a fatal accident, do not attempt to move the injured person or vehicle(s).

Do not deal with unauthorised operators

Do not have any dealings with unauthorised tow-truck operators or unauthorised repair workshops.

Reporting Rules

Why timely reporting matters

Reporting is required even if the damage seems minor or a private settlement is being discussed.

Liability may be declined

Your insurer may repudiate liability if the accident is not reported properly.

Your No-Claims Discount may be docked upon renewal of your policy.

Important: Filing a Traffic Police report is not equivalent to making a report to your insurer. After filing a Traffic Police report, you are still required to report to your insurer within 24 hours or by the next working day.

Improved accident reporting process

With effect from 31 July 2024, vehicle owners and drivers can experience a more efficient reporting process through Singpass and Myinfo.

Before going to the ARC

  1. Go to the GEARS Myinfo Reporting website.
  2. Authenticate identity using Singpass.
  3. Select your profile:
    • I am both the driver and owner of the vehicle
    • I am only the driver
    • I am only the owner
  4. After Myinfo auto-populates the data, complete the additional required information.
  5. Submit the accident report initiation.
  6. Receive an email with the Accident Report Number to provide to the ARC.

Important note

Submission of a GEARS Online Accident Notification does not constitute reporting under the GIA Motor Claims Framework (MCF).

You must still complete the reporting process within the stipulated timeframe to avoid affecting your claim and/or policy renewal terms.

ARC Process

What happens at the Accident Reporting Centre

The ARC assists with completion and submission of the final accident report.

If you initiated before visiting the ARC

  • Provide your Accident Report Number and Vehicle Registration Number to the ARC.
  • The Accident Report Number can be found on the GEARS Myinfo Reporting website or in the email sent to you after submission.
  • The ARC will assist you to complete and submit the final Accident Report.
  • After submission, you will receive a copy of the report by email.

If you initiate at the ARC

  • Provide your profile to the ARC:
    • I am both the driver and owner
    • I am only the driver
    • I am only the owner
  • When requested, scan the Singpass QR code displayed on the ARC’s PC.
  • Myinfo data corresponding to the selected profile will be auto-populated into the accident report.
  • The ARC will assist you to complete and submit the final Accident Report.
  • After submission, you will receive a copy of the report by email.
Special situations: If the owner and driver are different and both are present at the ARC, the driver should scan the QR code. If only the corporate owner is present at the ARC, the accident report must be filed manually.

Frequently asked questions

Helpful answers for common reporting and claim concerns.

How can you make sure your workshop is not charging more than it should?

You are advised to go to an authorised workshop of your insurer for repairs, even if you are claiming against the other party. Avoid unauthorised tow-truck operators and repair workshops to prevent complications. Exercise caution before signing any documents.

What should I do if the accident happened outside Singapore?

Make a report at the nearest Police Station in the country where the accident occurred. If you require advice or assistance, call your insurance company.

Do I still need to report an accident if a private settlement is made?

Yes. Always report all accidents to your insurer even if a private settlement has been made. This protects you in case the other party later files a claim against you.

Do foreign workers also have Myinfo?

As long as the driver has a Singpass/Myinfo account, Myinfo reporting can be used.

Is the use of Myinfo reporting compulsory?

Myinfo reporting is the default reporting process going forward and helps shorten waiting times at the ARCs.

Can I use my private car to ferry passengers for a fee?

You should approach insurers to extend your motor policy to cover “hire and reward” usage.
